  • Bella

Bella needs some TLC 💜 This beautiful little puss had been a pet but arrived with us absolutely terrified and shaking with fear and we have no idea what her previous life was like for her to have caused this. We put her in a large dog crate to begin with to help her feel secure and to stop her hiding - her fostermum has worked wonders with her and she needs an experienced, understanding owner to continue her rehab. "After a few days I started wrapping her up in a blanket to give her some forced love and to show I am nothing bad. You could see she enjoyed the cuddles and her internal struggle was strong! When I was home I started leaving the crate open so she had the chance to explore on her own terms. When she was sure I wasn't paying attention she would race out of the cage and find a hiding space. I have lost her more than once - the places she has found and how small she can make herself! When I started leaving her out overnight she did everything she could to get under my sofa. I would get her out from there in the morning and she would run back to safety in the crate. We kept the crate for a few weeks until she was more out than in and it was no longer her main safe place, I don’t see how her transformation could have worked without that crate. When she is out in the open she still runs for cover but she hides more in plain sight like under the table or her other safe place: inside a shelf unit where you can still see her. She is a very playful 16 month old cat, slowly growing her confidence, curious and causing all kinds of trouble letting her inner kitten come out. Sitting in the window and watching people and birds is a big hobby. Playtime will help her forget her fears. When you lay down on the sofa or bed she feels safe to approach you for cuddles and will lie on or beside you. Last few weeks she has started to sleep with me in bed. Or why sleep some nights when you can just collect your toys, bring them into bed and play on top of you!? Every morning she comes straight up demanding cuddles. If you are not giving her what she wants she will tell you so by putting her paw on you :) The past few weeks she has also found her voice and will demand her food. She is very food motivated, the one time she is ready to be brave and sacrifice her life is when there is potential food to gain. She will try and steal your food on the plate, pans from cooking in the kitchen, getting into the food waste (keep it locked!). So that's the way forward with positive reinforcement it seems. She will need a special home where it is expected she will revert to her old self and start over the journey but hopefully a quicker journey this time. Quiet, not a busy environment, no children or other pets. A home with lots of love, patience, safe spaces, and occasional tough love - she can't be allowed to hide for too long. She did have a touch of conjunctivitis caused by stress and they may recur but it didn't need any vet treatment." Neutered, chipped, vaccinated plus comes with 5 weeks free insurance. • Beau

Special home needed for this very special boy 💜 This handsome chonk is Beau. He is about 8 years old and likely to be a British Blue. Beau was found as a very poorly stray and his finder spent a lot of time and money on getting him well but wasn’t in a position to be able to manage his health issues long term so he came into foster with us. Beau has a condition called triaditis which means he suffers from inflammation of his pancreas, liver and small intestine. It can be managed with a strict diet and after following the diet and some medication, all his tests have now come back normal. Beau is a lovely purry boy with lots of character and is always making his foster mum laugh with his antics. He will try to squeeze into the smallest cat bed he can find or flop down in the middle of the doorway to snooze. If he flops down in the corridor and you walk past him without giving him a stroke he will bat you for neglecting him. He does like to play although he is quite selective about the toys he likes and gets bored very quickly. Despite his size, Beau can be scared of noises or people/objects he isn’t familiar with – whilst being scared of the hoover is pretty standard, hissing at the mop bucket and running away is a new one on us. Beau will need a quieter home, teenage children should be fine but everyone in the household will need to understand that food cannot be left out anywhere Beau could eat it and that he can’t get out into an uncontrolled environment where he coukd beg or scave get food. The specialist food he eats will cost under £5 a week, he likes it and so long as he stays on it and his weight is maintained his condition should remain stable. He is a large cat and used to going outside so any future home would need a lot of space, ideally with a secure garden or catio to keep him occupied and provide him with exercise. He would need to be the only pet to manage his diet properly but as he seems to absolutely hate other cats that would suit him just fine! Neutered, chipped, had first vaccination plus comes with 5 weeks free insurance. As insurance won't cover his triaditis, BWCR will cover any costs relating to this at Fernlea vets in Kingswood or Hanham. We must stress he needs responsible owners who will keep him on his diet - no treats, no tidbits! Are you ready to adopt a cat from Bristol & Wales Cat Rescue? • Bub

Bug needs an understanding home 💜 Bug was originally adopted from the RSPCA in March 2016, they thought he was about 8 months old and had been a stray - he's a big puss with a big personality. He is a constant tail wagger, most of the time he likes a head rub, or he will jump on the kitchen table then onto your shoulder if he wants a cuddle, he's pretty agile! He does get grumpy and will scratch or bite if you give him attention when he is not up for it so you need to read the signs and he needs an adult-only home with no other pets. So far, so typical but unfortunately some things changed during lockdown which really stressed him out and made him miserable: The neighbours got 2 new kittens and a strange cat also started appearing in the garden and they all came into the house at night, stealing his food, bullying him and spraying on his territory :( Then a new baby arrived and Bug started pulling his fur out with the stress of it all and hissing and spitting at himself to vent his frustration. Poor Bug just wants a quiet life like he had before, preferably with not many cats in the neighbourhood and definitely none that will steal his supper! He'd like a garden away from busy roads where he can rule the roost again. Neutered, chipped, vaccinated plus comes with 5 weeks free. Are you ready to adopt a cat from Bristol & Wales Cat Rescue?
